Understanding directionality and how it relates to addition and place on the 120 chart

In this lesson, teacher asks students to predict what the concrete models for this lesson will directs students to the Mathematical Practices chart on which the practices to be of particular importance for this lesson have been identified using highlighter tape, directs them to place their block on a selected number located toward the top of the 120 chart and to move the block one more square on the chart and asks partners to again discuss what they notice about that is the same or different about the 3rd number. Teacher suggests they investigate to see if the patterns they noticed will continue to hold true as they continue to move the block down the chart, remaining in the same column.
