Unit 2, Lesson 1# Bundling 1

Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education 53 min(s)

In this lesson children come to grips with the dual nature of ten - that it is simultaneously a single entity and ten separate objects - and these two identities are equivalent. Because our counting system is base-10, creating sets of tens provides us with an efficient shortcut in identifying large quantities without counting every item in the set. As you plan, consider the variability of learners in your class and make adaptations as necessary.
