Unit 4, Lesson 14

Represent subtraction with and without the decomposition when there is a three-digit minuend

EngageNY 60 min(s)
In this lesson, students continue to deepen their understanding of subtraction by relating their drawings to the subtraction algorithm working with the chip model on their place-value chart. They decompose a ten and relate it to vertical form. Students subtract a two-digit subtrahend from a three-digit minuend, for example 164 - 36. This provides practice working with and drawing three-digit numbers without the complexity of decomposing a hundred.
