Unit 4, Lesson 9

Use math drawings to represent the composition when adding a two-digit to a three-digit addend

EngageNY 60 min(s)
In this lesson, students deepen their understanding of addition of numbers within 100. They demonstrate the relationship between their drawings and the addition algorithm. Students represent the composition of 10 ones as 1 ten when adding a two-digit addend to a three-digit addend on a labeled place-value chart. This provides practice drawing three-digit numbers without the complexity of composing a hundred. It also provides practice with adding like-units.
