Unit 1, Lesson 7# Situations of unknown number of groups

Student Achievement Partners 30 min(s)

Lesson builds on the work with missing factors from the previous lesson, starting with situations of an unknown number of groups. Students work with concrete and pictorial representations and write them as missing factor equations. Problems will also introduce measurement situations in which the units represent the objects in equal groups in order to build a foundation for later work with measurement. Towards the end of the lesson, students encounter both types of missing factor problems (unknown number of groups and unknown group size) to ensure that they are able to analyze, represent, and solve both types of problems.
