In this lesson, students place fractions greater than 1 on the number line. They draw a number line, mark intervals for whole numbers, and partition the space between whole numbers into equal lengths. Then they label fractions equivalent to whole numbers and use these as a reference to find other fractions between whole numbers. (For example, they label 2/2, 4/2, and 8/2 in order to locate 5/2 and 7/2.)
