In this lesson, students continue comparing fractions by placing them on the number line and either reasoning about their distance from 0 or their relative positions on the number line. For example, to compare 1/4 and 3/4, they partition the interval between 0 and 1 into fourths and locate the two fractions. Then they reason that since 1/4 is closer to 0, and since 1/4 is to the left of 3/4, 1/4 < 3/4.
