Use meters to model the decomposition of one whole into hundredths, and represent and count hundredths

In this lesson, students use meter sticks as a way to recognize the relationship between tenths and hundredths. By counting centimeters on the meter stick, they see that 10/100 meter (10 centimeters is equivalent to 1/10 meter. From there, they represent 1/100 meter as 0.01 meter, count by hundredths up to 0.25, and model hundredths on a number line and a tape diagram.
