In this lesson, students extend their understanding of patterns in base 10 systems, by exploring multiplicative patterns. They divide single units by 10 to build the place value chart to introduce thousandths. For example, 1 million ÷ 10 = 1 hundred thousand. Then they multiply and divide copies of one unit by 10, 100, and 1,000. Finally, students multiply mixed units by 10, 100, and 1,000.
