Unit 1, Lesson 1# Fractions in the Real World

Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education 60 min(s)

In this lesson, students play the "Fraction" of Time Response Game. This game requires students to reason abstractly and quantitatively about fractions using benchmark fractions as one of a reasonable strategy for comparing/estimating sums and differences of fractions as well as working on their "fraction sense". The set up of the game is designed so that students are constantly engaged in constructing viable arguments and critiquing the reasoning of others.
