Unit 4, Lesson 10

Compare and evaluate expressions with parentheses.

EngageNY 60 min(s)

In this lesson, students begin interpreting and evaluating expressions with parentheses. They will write an expression to match a tape diagram. For example, a tape diagram that represents "9+11" is divided into 4 units with a question mark on 3 of the 4 units would be 3/4 x (9+11). Then students will write an expression given the word form. For example, "the product of 4 and 2, divided by 3" is written as (4x2) ÷3.
