In this lesson, students begin applying their knowledge of area of figures with fractional side lengths in context. They will use visual models and equations to represent the problems through the Read-Draw-Write (RDW) protocol. For example, students will find the area that paint needs to cover on a wall with dimensions 12 7/8 ft by 8 ft with 2 windows that are 3 1/2 ft by 4 1/2 ft.
