This Instructional Activity is a part of the Lesson 22, Unit 1, Grade 6. If an object is moving at a constant rate of speed for a certain amount of time, it is possible to find how far the object went by multiplying the rate and the time. Measure out a 50-foot course in the hallway (or shorter in the classroom). Have student volunteers use a stopwatch to measure the time it takes to have others walk the distance. Also, ask a fast runner to run the course as fast as he or she can.
