This Instructional Activity is a part of the Lesson 9, Unit 4, Grade 6. This open-ended activity gives students a chance to formulate their own scenarios for a division expression, find the value of that expression, and make sense of the value in the context of their scenario. By now students will have seen a variety of situations in which a division means finding "how many groups of this in that?" or finding "how much in each group?" and can refer to these two interpretations of division to get started. If they are stuck, encourage them to consult the examples they have seen so far (e.g., the problems about the water container, the lengths of ropes, cleaning the highway, etc.)
