Students construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others during partner and whole-class discussions about how unknown values relate to each other. Arrange students in groups of 2. Give students 7 minutes quiet work time, followed by 3-5 minutes for partner discussion. Tell students to check in with their partners and, if there are disagreements, work to come to an agreement.
