This Instructional Activity is a part of the Lesson 5, Unit 4, Grade 7. The use of visual models is a powerful strategy for organizing and solving percent problems. In this example (and others that follow), the double number line is modified so that it is made up of a percent number line and a bar model. This model provides a visual representation of how quantities compare and what percent they correspond with. We use the greatest common factor of the given percent and to determine the number of equal-sized intervals to use.
