Task# Two-School Dance

The purpose of this task is to see how well students students understand and reason with ratios. A common mistake is to simply add the ratios values, i.e. getting 10:10 and then reinterpreting that to mean half of the the students at the dance are girls; this task would be appropriate for formative or summative assessment. Students must work with two different ratios in order to calculate the number of girls at Colfax and Winthrop Middle Schools.
