This Instructional Activity is a part of the Lesson 5, Unit 4, Grade 8. Solve the following problem: Given a right triangle, find the degree measure of the angles if one angle is ten degrees more than four times the degree measure of the other angle and the third angle is the right angle. Give students time to work. As they work, walk around and identify students who are writing and solving the problem in different ways. The instructional goal of this example is to make clear that there are different ways to solve a linear equation as opposed to one "right way." Select students to share their work with the class.
