Proportional Relationships Define Linear Functions

This Instructional Activity is a part of the Lesson 8, Unit 5, Grade 8. This activity begins connecting proportional relationships, which students learned in previous grades, to functions. Students use function language with proportional relationships and make connections between what they know about functions and what they know about proportional relationships. Students use similar contexts from previous grades to learn that proportional relationships are linear functions. They are also asked to determine the independent and dependent variables and the equation of the function.
