This Instructional Activity is a part of the Lesson 7, Unit 7, Grade 8. In this activity, students analyze powers that involve different bases. The goal is for them to recognize that exponents can be added (or subtracted) only when the powers being multiplied (or divided) have the same base. It is expected that students compute the value of the expressions on the left and right sides of the equation to show they are not actually equal. The last problem alludes to the rule a^n × b^n = (a × b)^n which will be explored further in the next lesson.
