Students define the graph of a numerical function to be the set of all points (x, y) with x an input of the function and y its matching output. Students realize that if a numerical function can be described by an equation, then the graph of the function precisely matches the graph of the equation. The function is not discrete because we can find the distance Giselle runs for any given amount of time she spends running. Students know the graph will be a line as we can find all of the points that represent fractional intervals of time too.
