Truncated Cones

EngageNY 45 min(s)

Students know that a truncated cone or pyramid is the solid obtained by removing the top portion of a cone or a pyramid above a plane parallel to its base. Students find the volume of truncated cones. Give students time to discuss the answer in groups, and then have them share their reasoning as to why the triangles are similar. We will use all of these facts to help us determine the volume of a truncated cone.
