Description: One of a series of documents describing the progression of a topic across several grade levels, informed both by research on children's development and by the structure of mathematics. The resulting data set will be a list of observations, for example as shown in the margin on the following page for the scenario of 28 students each measuring the height of a statue. This activity connects with other work students are doing in measurement in Grade 2: representing whole numbers on number line diagrams, and representing sums and differences on such diagrams.
